How To Listen To A Body – Joris Kern (Berlin)

  • Shetlandsgade 3, 1st floor 2300 Copenhagen Denmark (map)

We are so happy to bring wonderful Joris Kern to House of Play to present their very popular How to Listen to a Body workshop, that is a staple in the IKSK schedule in Berlin.

How to listen to a body?

Well, that's a big question that bodyworkers, sexnerds, dancers, actors and healers all over the world are trying to find answers to and that keeps opening up new questions. So I'm not going to claim that I have the answer!

Instead, we will practice tuning into ourselves and others in different ways.

How can we listen with ears, hands, bodies and eyes to a body?

How can we learn to trust non-verbal cues and how does our communication become clearer?

When and how does a body signal yes, no, curiosity, fear, joy, insecurity, trust?

If your brain doesn't know what you want - maybe your body does? How can the brain and body become friends?

How is this influenced by interaction?

When does a body feel “easy to read”?

And how can talking about bodies, feelings and desire avoid becoming all in our heads and remain physical?

We will play games, talk, enjoy, become curious, open our senses and extend our antennas into different bodies. You will have the opportunity to get honest feedback on your perception and experience what it feels like when someone really wants to listen to your body.

I consider refining our non-verbal perception, but also verbally exchanging and aligning this perception, to be a very important part of consensual culture. And before we can talk to others about our needs and feelings such as desire, defensiveness, insecurity, fear, curiosity, etc., we have to learn to perceive and appreciate them within ourselves.

This workshop will be sensual, playful and - if you want - gently sexual and/ or kinky. But even if you choose to stay in non-sexual exploration, your sex life will most likely benefit from the experiences of the workshop!

WHO IS THIS FOR?

The workshop is open to all genders and all bodies, as well as to all levels of experience. It is for anyone curious to explore deeper what it means to truly listen to your own and others bodies. It is designed so that you do exercises with changing people. However, everything is strictly voluntary, you can always choose who and what you feel comfortable with.

Taking breaks is totally welcome.

This is NOT for you if:

  • You exclusively want to participate with your partner.

  • You are not interested in doing the exercises with people of the same gender as yourself.

CAN I JOIN AS A BEGINNER?

Absolutely, no prior experience needed.

DO I NEED A PARTNER?

You can come alone, in pairs or as a group. The exercises are often practical, physical, and hands-on. You’ll be invited to work with different people in various combinations throughout the workshop. The exercises include different levels of intimacy, sensuality and playfulness. If you exclusively want to stay with one partner, this might not be for you.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Joris Kern has started giving workshops around sexuality in 2009, starting with the question "why -even if everybody involved has the best intentions- is it still so difficult to make sure, everybody involved really enjoys a sexual encounter?" and the intention to create spaces where people can explore different aspects of wanting, communicating, feeling, insecurity and all the other ingredients that are part of sexuality and relationships. Joris is a regular facilitator at IKSK (Berlin) and Zwischenwelten (Zürich), has written two books about consensuality as a culture of authenticity, playfulness and well-meaning, teaches pedagogues on sexpositive ways of sex-education, works also as mediator and loves to create spaces that support people to thrive.
