Queer Play (Roles)

  • Shetlandsgade 3, 1st floor 2300 Copenhagen Denmark (map)

Unfolding your inner Dom

Finding your own play style and role can be difficult, when much of mainstream kink and BDSM representation is created by, for and with cis and straight people in mind. In this workshop series we invite you to dive into your own perception and wants, when stepping into your own inner play personality.

Collectively, we will examine how cis-het kink has shaped our understanding of different play roles and in each workshop we explore how we can create our own personal play roles and position, to better suit our own play needs. In this second workshop we will dive into the wonderful world of Dominating. So come explore your own needs, wants and desires and expression as a Dom or switch, or come examine which kind of queer doms you are interested in submitting to.

Through conversation, sharing and playful exercises you will try to lay out the vast landscape of Dom personalities, maybe leaning into, reshaping or steering away from stereotypical play roles and notions of “how and what does a Dom ‘normally’ act and look like”.

WHO IS THIS FOR?
This series of workshops are specifically created for the queer people. Here, we use “queer” as an all encompassing term for people who either have a different sexuality than heterosexual (e.g. bi-, homo- and/or pansexual etc.) and/or are not cisgender. This includes trans-, non-binary and/or gender variant people.

By creating this series of workshops, we specifically aim to create a space for queer people to explore their kinky personas and preferences among other LGBTQIA+ people. Therefore, if you do not consider yourself as part of the LGBTQIA+ community and/or as queer, we kindly ask that you join one of House of Play’s many other workshops and events.

CAN I JOIN AS A BEGINNER?
Yes, no previous experience is required. During the workshop you'll be invited to work with different people in various combinations throughout the workshop, giving you the chance to co-create in a fluid, collective experience.

DO I NEED A PARTNER?
You can come alone, in pairs or as a (poly) group. The exercises are sometimes practical, physical, and hands-on. While we encourage openness to different people and genders in exercises, you may choose to play exclusively with your partner(s) if that feels right for you.

DRESSCODE
Wear something comfortable that you can move around freely in. We encourage you to bring, dress up or wear something that brings out your inner Dom.

WHAT TO BRING
If you have any accessories, toys or dress up that unlocks your inner Dom persona, you are welcome to bring it and/or it at the workshop. Otherwise, you are not required to bring anything but your curiosity.

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS

Alex (they/them) has been diving in and out of kink and play spaces over the last 10 years, but have recently rediscovered their need and love for queer kink spaces. For years, Alex worked as an educator and activist for trans, non-binary and other gender variant people’s rights to personal, social and medical transition in Denmark, before taking a break from personal and community activism. Overarching for their educational work and activism, Alex is passionate about creating safer spaces for queer people to explore their thoughts, desires and insecurities about sexuality, sexual roles, gender(s), power dynamics and consent.

Gabrielle (They/she) is a certified trauma-informed facilitator, educator, practitioner and rope-performer in the Copenhagen kink scene. With eight years of experience in rope, play, and conscious kink, they have taught and performed at different venues and events around Europe and have been part of House of Play from the beginning, where they facilitate workshops, rituals, and play spaces. Their teaching focuses on consent, creativity, curiosity for new ways of looking at things and exploring your personal flavour in play – always with a sharp edge, a good dose of humor, and a mission to make kink both more conscious and less taboo. They are passionate about blending play and awareness in ways that feel both deep and lighthearted and will invite you to explore the edges of your comfort zone with curiosity and a smile.
