Inclusivity and Privilege - Free community talk

  • Shetlandsgade 3, 1st floor 2300 Copenhagen Denmark (map)

Have you ever wondered why we, here at House of Play, mention gender and pronouns in almost every event introduction? Have you considered how you can contribute to creating inclusivity and what that even means? Or have you ever felt different or “othered”, like you weren’t allowed to be a woman, that you had to hide your masculinity, or that your special needs might take up too much space, when entering different spaces?

Then maybe our next community event is for you.

At our next community event, our very own House of Play-member and co-facilitator, Alex L. Delamare (they/them), will come in and offer guidance, exercises, questions, answers and insights about inclusivity and privileges.

Sounds scary? Don’t be nervous! For years, Alex has helped groups navigate conversations and questions about gender, sexuality, gendered language, societal norms and rule breaking, by unfolding what and how “privileges” affect our lives in various different ways.

This evening, Alex will focus on some of the topics that often arise in House of Play; such as gender and gendered language, as well as different minority and majority positions in various (play) spaces, and understanding what we mean, when we talk about privilege. Such as how we may all experience a change in our access to different spaces and how to deal with our emotions, as our access changes.

So come by yourself, with a friend, or bring your partner(s) and spend the evening learning and reflecting on how we may all contribute to co-creating (even more) inclusive, open, privilege-aware and safe(r) play spaces for all participants.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

This workshop is for anyone who is interested in expanding their understanding of how “privilege” - which in recent years has become social media’s favorite love/hate buzzword - can be used as a way to examine different people’s access to spaces. By unfolding and demystifying privileges, together we will examine how we can use privilege as a scope to better understand our own (as well as other’s) position and (in)ability to participate on equal footing.

So if you care about and are interested in better understanding, how you may help make House of Play the best possible playground for the most people, come join us. No previous knowledge is needed and everybody is welcome, regardless of gender and sexual orientation.

DO I NEED TO BRING A PARTNER?

You can come alone or you can bring all your friends, family and neighbours.

Throughout the workshop, there will be small exercises, none including physical touch

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Alex (they/them) have been diving in and out of kink and play spaces over the last 10 years, but have recently rediscovered their need and love for kink spaces.

For years, Alex worked as an educator and workshop facilitator at LGBT+ Denmark, where they gave talks on the issues minority communities face in our predominantly cis-het normative society.

In their work and activism, Alex has specifically addressed and advocated for trans, non-binary and other gender variant people’s rights to personal, social and medical transition in Denmark.

Overarching for their educational work and activism, Alex is passionate about creating safer spaces for (queer) people to explore their thoughts, desires and insecurities about sexuality, sexual roles, gender(s), power dynamics and consent.
