Can You Get Rejected?

A Grow Up Workshop on Rejection and Relational Courage

The second workshop in the four-part Building Safer Attachment series. You don't need to have attended part 1 to attend part 2.

Rejection is one of the most activating human experiences.

A text that is not answered.

A partner pulling away.

A no when we hoped for a yes.

For many of us, rejection does more than hurt. It can quickly affect how we see ourselves, the other person, and the whole situation.

We may become urgent and try to win the person back. We may get angry, defensive, ashamed, or collapse completely. Sometimes we stop reaching for what we want because avoiding rejection feels safer than risking the experience again.

In this workshop, we will explore rejection as a doorway into emotional maturity.

Learning to handle rejection does not mean becoming numb or pretending that we do not care. It means building the capacity to remain with ourselves when we are not chosen, when someone does not want the same thing, or when the answer is simply no.

And maybe, with time, we can even feel proud that we dared to go for what we wanted.

Because the real freedom is not that everyone says yes. It is that we can ask, express ourselves, and take relational risks without our whole sense of self depending on the answer.

In that sense, this workshop is also about self-love.

The theory behind the workshop

Rejection is not only psychological. It is also biological.

From an attachment perspective, rejection can awaken earlier experiences of separation. As children, losing connection did not only hurt. Connection was connected to safety, care, and survival. Because of this, the nervous system may still react strongly to signs of being unwanted, excluded, or left.

From a polyvagal perspective, rejection can activate different survival responses. Some people move into fight or flight: anger, defensiveness, panic, overthinking, or an urgent need to repair the connection. Others move into shutdown: shame, collapse, withdrawal, or numbness.

These reactions are protective strategies. They developed for a reason.

As adults, we have more possibilities than we had as children. When we can recognise that an old wound has been activated, stay with what is happening in the body, and return to the present, rejection does not need to take over the whole system.

It may still hurt. But the hurt can move through.

And when fear of rejection has less control over us, we become more able to go for what we want, say what is true, and live in a way that is closer to ourselves.

In this workshop, we will use somatic practices, reflection, relational exercises, and the Grow Up understanding of younger parts and adult consciousness to explore what happens inside us when we meet a no.

The question is not only: Can you avoid rejection?

The question is: Can you get rejected and remain with yourself?

About the series

Building Safer Attachment

A Grow Up series of four workshops with Li Tadaa at House of Play

Each workshop has its own theme and can be joined as a single event. You can also take part in several of them as a deeper journey into building more safety within yourself and in your relationships with others. If you have attended similar workshops with Li before, you can trust that new layers will come up this time.

As we move into intimacy, most of us meet emotional challenges that are connected to both the person in front of us and our own history.

From a Grow Up perspective, we learn to recognise when the past has entered the present, so we can respond with more awareness instead of automatically repeating an old pattern.

Safer attachment is something we gradually build within ourselves. It gives us more capacity to come close, fall in love, open up sexually, meet uncertainty, and still remain connected to who we are.

One of the biggest challenges in intimacy is merging. Closeness can feel beautiful, but we may begin to lose our needs, boundaries, or sense of self inside the connection. Others protect themselves by keeping a distance and never fully allowing the meeting to happen.

This series is an invitation to stand more steadily within ourselves and move towards greater romantic and sexual sovereignty. Even though each workshop can be attended separately, the four workshops follow a movement:

Are You Good Enough?

Our relationship to our own value.

Can You Get Rejected?

Daring to reach out, ask, and risk hearing no.

Can You Love Without Falling?

Opening to love without losing ourselves inside it.

Shadows of Kink

Exploring sexuality, power, desire, and how they can become mixed with unresolved childhood needs.

How we do it

Throughout the series, we will explore attachment through the body and look at how old patterns live in the nervous system and show up in relationships.

We will work with somatic practices, constellations, reflection, relational exercises, and emotional awareness, woven together with dance, play, and community building in a mix Li likes to call “trauma fun.”

CAN I JOIN AS A BEGINNER?

Yes you can, however take into account that this work may awaken fears, emotions and/or trauma in the body, so a basic capacity to self regulate and tend to your needs is necessary.

DO I NEED A PARTNER?

No - You may come with one (or more) but you can expect a lot of group exercises.

DRESSCODE

Comfy for dance and movement.
