PLAYBOUND
Every third Monday of the month 17:45 – 18:45
Free for all
Join us for an hour of guided exploration before the rope jam – a space to expand, connect, and play. PlayBound invites you to move, feel, and experiment with rope as a language of connection and imagination. Each month offers a different theme – from building body awareness and embodied movement to group improvisation and abstract creation – inviting you to explore new ways of connecting through ropes.
THE THEMES
Bodies and Movement
In the ‘Bodies and Movement’ edition of Play-Bound, we invite you to come explore how to move bodies in ropes. We’ll use simple prompts that might awaken sensation, flow, and grounding; offering opportunities to discover what it means to be held, supported, or in motion together. Move, breathe, play, and explore how ropes can move the body and how the body can be moved in ropes.
More than two
In the ‘More than two’ edition of Play-Bound, we invite you to explore group connection and collective play. Together we explore rope as a bridge between more than two bodies – listening, responding, shifting roles, and creating together. Through guided games and soft improvisation we’ll explore how to create dynamics outside of the classical “Good Cop, Bad Cop-dynamic”, expanding how we can play together as more than two - working on our communication and curiosity. Be open to explore connected flow, presence, and new forms of togetherness.
We cannot guarantee that you can always only work with the partner that you brought.
Expanding the Frame
In the ‘Expanding the Frame’ edition of Play-Bound, we dive into the abstract and the poetic. We might play with the relationship between the collective and the individual, setting a scene for ritualized explorations, awakening your curiosity and creativity by breaking the mold. There’s no right or wrong — just the unfolding of what wants to happen. This might be beautiful, moving, absurd, awkward, weird, challenging, boring, or all of the above. Here we will often work in collective group experiments, and therefore it will most likely not be possible to stay with only your partner.
Be sure to check each event, which theme it will be.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
This space is for anyone curious about rope, movement, and connection – whether you’re fairly new or have been tying for years, all you need is for you to be curious about exploring new ways with ropes. Just bring yourself, your boundaries, and an openness to explore.
CAN I JOIN AS A BEGINNER?
You need to be able to tie a single column tie – as we might sometimes ask participants to shift roles, it’s important that everyone knows how to tie it.
DO I NEED A PARTNER?
Come solo, come in pairs, come as a whole circus troupe – however your heart desires! The activities might be hands-on and physical. Throughout the workshop, we might invite you to mix, match, and mingle with a wonderful variety of humans.
We encourage everyone to stay open to exploring with different folks and all genders, however always within your boundaries. You can also choose to stay with just your partner, however some evenings might be geared towards a more collective group experience.
