Japanese Rope Bondage

BEGINNER COURSE

Learn to create intimate, beautiful, spicy, and transformative experiences with ropes

This course is a great way to start your journey with Japanese inspired Rope Bondage, also called Shibari or Kinbaku. We will focus on the features that make Japanese inspired bondage such an intimate, sensual, beautiful, and sometimes transformative experience between two people.

We will dive into:

  • Intimacy and non-verbal communication through ropes

  • Aesthetics and the beauty of rope bondage

  • The dynamics of power and surrender

  • Polarity and presence

  • Safety, consent, and being confident in communicating your boundaries

You will learn all the basic techniques you need to play with bondage in a safer way – and to prepare you for doing suspensions when you move on to the next level rope course at House of Play.

WHO IS THIS FOR

This is a beginner’s course, so you need no prior experience in Japanese Rope Bondage.

If you have some experience but need to make sure your technical skills for learning to do suspensions are in place, or you want a deeper understanding of how you can play and connect through ropes, this is also a great course for you. The course is for all genders and sexual orientations.

If in doubt, contact us for more information.

If everyone in the course speaks Danish, we will do that, otherwise we'll speak English.

Please note: You need to sign up as a couple, where one is being tied and the other ties, throughout the course. That’s because we want to prepare you for being able to do suspensions, which requires a certain level of technical understanding on how to tie and to be tied in a safe way.

If you want to join, but don’t have a rope partner, contact us and maybe we can help.

TEACHERS

Rob (she/her) has been part of the teaching team at House of Play for the past year, bringing four years of shibari practice into a teaching style that blends technical clarity with curiosity, movement, and connection. For her, rope is primarily not about structure, it is rather a form of dialogue. She is especially drawn to the playfulness and presence that rope invites, and to the subtle ways partners can move together and connect through polarity.

Her teaching is rooted in strong consent practices and a culture of care, where communication and awareness are continuously woven into the process. In the beginner course, she focuses on building a safe and confident foundation, including risk-aware rope handling, preparation for suspensions, basic nerve awareness, and play. At the same time, there is always space for exploration. Students are encouraged to find their own flavor.

Helene (she/her) began her rope journey here at House of Play. First as the tiee and after a short while  as the rigger as well. What she loves most about rope is the wordless communication, trust, connection and intimacy that can be created through rope. She is endlessly curious, enjoys learning new techniques, and loves sharing playful and meaningful rope experiences with others.
